pad1:1 DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pro Part # 260147

Why is the DVD write speed only up to 16x?
DVD “x” speeds are almost 10 times faster than CD “x” speeds. The DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pros use 16x DVD recording technology and 16x DVD equates to about 11MB/sec transfer rate. 40x CD equates to only 6.0MB/sec.

What does "Dual" mean?
The DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pro can use both DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW discs in duplicating or recording, hence it is “Dual” in recording format technology. This removes most of the format compatibility issues and barriers that previously existed. Now users do not have to worry about which format to buy or which format will become the de facto standard when all is said and done.

What is 8-in-1?
Now customers will be able to use DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, DVD-ROM, CD-R, CD-RW and CD-ROM discs all with one product. Introducing the new family of Alera Technologies DVD Duplicators and Recorders based on Dual Standard 8-in-1 DVD±R/RW Technology. This new family supports all popular DVD formats!

After a function is selected, is there any way to tell what the DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pro is doing and where it is in completing the function selected?
The DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pro is equipped with a very clear, back lighted LCD display that shows the duplicator function selected and the status of that function such as % complete while the function is running. Since all DVDs do not copy at the same speed, this is particularly useful, in that you know if you can do something else while the duplicator is copying or if it will be finished momentarily.

What copy speeds does the DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pro use? When “Copy” is selected, you can choose the DVD Duplicating speed from 16x, 4x, 2x, and 1x. If you are duplicating a CD, you can select speeds up to 40x.

What blank media can be used in the DVD/CD Copy Cruiser Pro?
For copying DVDs at 16x, you need 16x certified media. If the media is not 16x, then the duplicator will copy at the speed of the media. For copying CDs, use any name brand media that is certified for at least 40x. Unlike DVD duplicating, the CD duplicating function will attempt to write at the speed selected. Copy quality can vary if the copy speed selected is higher than the certification of the media.

In the case that the duplicator is having trouble making a copy, what can be done?
The first step to take is to go to “Test” and test the copy process at a lower recording speed. “Test” is supported using DVD-R/RW media. “Test” simulates the writing process. A successful Test Copy helps assure that a good quality duplicate will be made. Repeat if necessary. When you have found an acceptable speed select the “Copy” mode and make the copy. It is always a good idea to run “Test” before going to the actual copy process.

Will the Test function work with DVD+R/RW media?
No, copy simulation is not supported with the DVD+R format.

If the duplicator is having trouble reading a DVD, what can be done?
The first step to take is to go to “Prescan” and test the disc and the reading speed and making speed adjustments. If you are still having trouble, you can place the source disc in any of the DVD Recorders and try to read it. Any drive can be selected as the source drive using the “Select Src.” Function. If the disc is in questionable condition (minor scratches etc.) please try our Alera Technologies Disc Repair Plus (Aleratec Part # 240121). This kit will rejuvenate many discs that have been mishandled. You can also try the “Skip Read Error” function and the duplicator will ignore any read errors encountered.
